With the recent launch
of CCO ConnectTM,
ACCO has established (and is continuing to develop) working and discussion groups
focused on a range of topics vital to climate change
strategies across a broad range of sectors.
Working groups active and current accepting members
include:
-
Data and
performance metrics (launched September 2009)
This working group will consider metrics,
case studies, best practices and data standards
for companies reporting under the mandated
Greenhouse Gas Emissions rule EPA finalized on
September 22, 2009. Early working goals will
include: (1) developing a GHG emissions report
framework, template and guidance notation,
enabling reporting companies to structure their
data collection from January 1, 2010 and achieve
compliant, consistent annual reports to the EPA
from January 1, 2011 within the estimated impact
financial burden budget; and (2) establishing a
rating system that will use objective standards
that can be applied to different mitigation and
benchmarking actions, and will monitor
regulatory impact cost burden for reporting
companies.
Group participants include Applied Materials, Honda, Waste
Management, Bayer, Intel, Red Dot Corporation, Midac Corporation and BSI Group. For more
information on this working group, please
contact working group chair,
Phil
Chandler.
-
National security and climate change
(launched October 2009)
Though still in a nascent stage, this working
group will produce recommendations to DoD and
other defense/national security organizations on
risk management, adaptation and opportunities
related to national security and climate change.
One of the early projects undertaken by this
working group will be to develop a response to
President Obama's recent executive order
requesting a set of recommendations on the
feasibility of establishing reporting
guidelines, emissions reduction mandates,
incentive structures and procurement guidelines
for vendors and contractors.
Group participants include CNA, Deloitte,
Institute for Defense Analyses. For more
information about this working group, please
contact
Daniel Kreeger.
-
Supply chain
management (Fall/Winter 2009)
As organizations in the public and private
sectors expand their climate change strategies
to focus on Scope 3 emissions, robust supply
chain management programs are sprouting across
all sectors. Members of this group will
share their experiences and identify trends
throughout industry. Action items for the
working group may include developing
recommendations for labeling and rating systems,
as well as creating a toolkit for supply chain
managers.
-
Stakeholder
engagement and education (Fall/Winter 2009)
Smart
companies realize that systematic engagement
with all stakeholders is an essential
prerequisite for any long-term climate change
strategy. Drawing on real-world examples from
insightful corporations and major stakeholder
groups, this working group will examine case
studies from peer members of the working group.
Action items for the working group may include
developing toolkits for educating and engaging
staff (including middle management not
specifically tasked to address climate change or
environmental considerations),
-
Organizational
structures & change management (Fall/Winter
2009)
Given the far-reaching implications of climate
change for industry and government, industry and
government are examining their organizational
structures and culture in order to develop
strategies for implementing climate change
leadership functions. This group will work
toward developing sample job descriptions and
expectations, best practices for organizational
structures and materials addressing the change
management aspects of climate change response.
-
Government
affairs forum (Fall/Winter 2009)
The explosion of climate change related policy
in state, regional, Federal and foreign
jurisdictions creates significant challenges for
industry. This group's leadership will
organize activities involving regular
presentations from government leaders to provide
education and networking opportunities to the
group's members.
Don't see a topic of interest? We encourage
you to provide ideas for new working groups.
