The Certified Climate Change Professional® (CC-P®) is the credential for senior and mid-level practitioners reflecting dedication to professional development and mastery of the core competencies of climate change professionalism.
 

The CC-P® curriculum and credential were established for professionals in corporations, government agencies, universities, professional service firms and non-profit organizations who identify as being:

  • In the field of climate change, sustainability, resilience and/or adaptation

  • In occupations and roles with significant climate change intersections and responsibilities
    (e.g., civil engineers, planners, supply chain professionals, emergency management professionals, architects, risk management professionals, public health professionals, etc.)

To earn the CC-P® credential, applicants must demonstrate professional mastery of a range of core competencies and fields of practice, including understanding key concepts and systems thinking in addressing the operational, mission, marketplace, value chain and bottom-line implications of climate change.  The credential reflects a professional command of the following:

  • Assessing vulnerability of an organization, its assets, operations and dependencies to climate change impacts and transition risks.

  • Reducing an organization’s GHG footprint and resource related risks.

  • Analyzing legal and policy activities and developing related strategies.

  • Driving organizational change and stakeholder engagement activities to catalyze climate change capacity and action.

  • Managing climate change risk and make a sound business case for response strategies.

How the CC-P® Program Works

Prerequisites

CC-P applicants must have one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:

  • Masters or post-graduate degree and 2+ years working professionally on climate change related projects or initiatives (e.g. GHG management/reduction, climate disaster preparedness, climate change risk assessments, disclosures)
    - or -

  • Four-year degree and 4+ years working working professionally on climate change related projects or initiatives (e.g. GHG management/reduction, climate disaster preparedness, climate change risk assessments, disclosures)
    - or -

  • Secondary (high school) degree and 7+ years working working professionally on climate change related projects or initiatives (e.g. GHG management/reduction, climate disaster preparedness, climate change risk assessments, disclosures)

CC-P® Exams

There are four CC-P® exams each of which requires that participants score a 70% or higher:

  1. Climate Science & Vulnerability Assessment

  2. GHG, Energy & Water Management

  3. Governance, Law & Policy

  4. Risk Management, Materiality & Economics

Elective
Requirements

Applicants will need to take 14 hours of elective training oriented toward executive or professional development (e.g. undergraduate/graduate courses, conference plenary sessions and site visits/tours may not be applied toward elective requirements). Requirements include satisfying:

  • 3.5 hours oriented toward your employer's sector;

  • 3.5 hours oriented toward your geographic region or region type (e.g. coastal community, high altitude, desert); and

  • 3.5 hours toward your occupation or professional responsibilities.


Maintenance Requirements & Renewal

The CC-P® credential is valid for six years and requires annual continuing education and usage requirements:

  • 8 hours of continuing education; and

  • 40 hours of continuing usage toward advancing the climate change field of practice.
